Ahead of their appearance at the EFG London Jazz Festival this Friday, London trio Monocled Man are today premiering a new performance video for the track ‘Deception Island’, exclusively on Vulture Hound.
The track, taken from their latest album We Drift Meridian, sees guest vocalist Ed Begley join Rory Simmons (trumpet, flugelhorn, keyboards, guitar, electronics), Chris Montague (guitar) and Jon Scott (drums, electronics) for a track bubbling with electronic vigor and Begley’s crooning, punk-poet vocal delivery. Watch the video, below.
Inspired by some of the forgotten and minute islands of the world’s oceans, We Drift Meridian, is a collection of haunting electronic and acoustic soundscapes – each capturing an element of the history, characters, and atmosphere of these far-flung, isolated spaces.
From stories about lost and wrecked 19th century expeditions, to the mystery of The Sarah Joe fishing trip; where a 17ft whaler with 5 crew members went missing off the coast of Hawaii in 1978. The vessel was found nearly 10 years later, washed up on an island 2000 miles away, next to a shallow grave containing the jaw bone of one of the lost party. We Drift Meridian captures these stories with energetic and pulsating electronic textures mixed with a good amount of spikey, industrial post-prog.
You can catch Monocled Man this Friday, November 18th at The Vortex, London, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival – the capital’s biggest pan-city music festival. Click here, for ticket info.
