I’m not going to lie to you. On the strength of this trailer alone, I think I might be ranking this one higher on my end of year list than Guardians of the Galaxy. I’m not kidding, this trailer is that good. The comic timing is superb, the soundtrack makes you want to run off and join the characters on their adventures and Baymax has the potential to be one of the most endearing characters in the history of Disney. It has a real charm to it that has been sorely missing from Disney’s more contemporary efforts. The main character looks especially well drawn and sympathetic. The inclusion of Japanese culture feels like a true homage instead of a cynical attempt at appealing to a lucrative foreign market. It has shades of Gundam, DBZ and Baymax reminds me an awful lot of Totoro from the Hayao Miyazaki classic. And that last one is reason enough for me to be hyped for this.
