This is the third trailer for Interstellar, Christopher Nolan’s next film, and a possible attempt to usurp 2001 as the most critically acclaimed sci-fi film of all time. The first two trailers seemed to focus, not on the intergalactic mission itself, but on the motivations behind the mission. The Earth is dying, its recourses are drying up, and life is becoming unsustainable. They also seemed to focus more on the family life Matthew McConaughey’s character has to sacrifice in order to save the world. It’s almost as if they are keeping the actual interstellar travel parts of the movie hidden. The trend continues in this trailer as most of the shots come from scenes set on Earth. Only this time, we do get an increased level of extra-terrestrial shots, but it still feels like it’s holding something back. As a result I’m so tantalised by what I’ve seen that my anticipation levels for this movie are becoming unbearable. I wonder what Nolan is keeping from us? His back catalogue is pristine enough to make me believe it must be worth waiting for. After all, even though we saw all of Inceptions money shots in the trailers, we could only really appreciate them once they were presented to us as Nolan intended. I have a feeling this will be the same way only with more surprises. November can’t come soon enough.
