Dad’s Army Redux

News in the wires are picking up something strange as it’s becoming clear that there are plans to revive immortal British sitcom Dad’s Army to the big screen.

Even now the classic comedy show which aired from 1968-1977 and spawned one feature film is regularly repeated on British TV screens. There is a great deal of affection for the show and its characters. Will audiences be willing to accept a new MaInwaring, Wilson, Jones and Fraser? Toby Jones and Bill Nighy are already on board for the respective roles made great by Arthur Lowe and John Le Mesurier. Jones can do intense. Nighy can be charming, but then again Le Mesurier was perhaps the most charming man to ever grace our screens will he ever be able to compare?

Is the world really crying out for a Dad’s Army re-boot? Jimmy Perry, one of the programmes original writers, has passed the torch on to writer Hamish McColl. The man who committed such masterpieces as Johnny English Reborn and Mr. Bean’s Holiday to page. Don’t like the sound of that? Well it’s going to be directed by Oliver Parker who committed Johnny English Reborn and the St. Trinian films to screen. Oh. Um. Err…
