Catfish and the Bottlemen – Kathleen (Single Review)

Rating:

Radiant. The one word that comes to mind about this Welsh band’s new single, ‘Kathleen’ is radiant. Via Communion/Island Records, Catfish and the Bottlemen debut this gem on April 14th, but it wouldn’t be our style to make you wait that long. As one of the few American contributors at Vulture Hound, I get more and more excited about bands like these gents, strumming and smashing to an entirely different beat.

Let’s talk about Van McCann’s luscious voice for a minute. I really can’t help but fall madly in love with his melodies and vocal strains throughout the track. These guys have some serious moxie and one cannot deny their effortless cool attitude. (Seriously, though, have you seen these guys? Total babes). ‘Kathleen’s lyrics are relatable and unique, discussing the qualms of a feisty and erratic girlfriend, or lady friend, which everyone has in their life.

The early millennium tastes of Catfish and the Bottlemen have caught my attention and I am now thoroughly disappointed that they will only be playing shows in Europe beginning this May.
