The Pretty Reckless - Going to Hell

The Pretty Reckless – Going to Hell (Album Review)

Rating:

The Pretty Reckless established their line up in 2010, and went straight into touring, and have supported head-liners Guns N’ Roses, Marilyn Manson and Evanescence and are currently out on the road with Fall Out Boy on a major world arena tour.

The current members are Taylor Momsen (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Ben Phillips (lead guitar, backing vocals), Mark Damon (bass) and Jamie Perkins (drums).  Momson started out as an actress as sweet little Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl- an American teen drama series- and you may recognise her as a certain cutie-pie Who in The Grinch.

Their first album received commercial success with their first single Make Me Wanna Die being a worldwide hit. They did not however, receive critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone calling the album “Generic” having said that the album received 74/100 at Metacritic

Going to Hell was introduced via the pre-album release of single Heaven Knows- an instant hit, the song is catchy and haunting and has even been taken under the wing of BBC Radio 1, where it is blasted daily.

Out now, the album Going To Hell is great, its got guts and attitude. Each track is different, its not one long Metal sesh, there are slower songs like Blame Me and Burn, there are Screamo moments like in Sweet Things, and even moments leaning towards Pop with the track Absolution. The bands sound is at the core Alternative-Metal, with a Post-Grunge edge. The relentless percussion powers through every song, and the heavy guitars riffs push the tunes further. Add to that Momsens’ stand out, gravelly vocals and you’ve got a winner every time.

They will be at Download Festival in June. And are on tour with FOB now!
