The Hard Way – Total Fucking Nihilism (Video Review)

Rating:

Somewhere during this project, Breakcore band The Hard Way convinced themselves they were making parody with their song Total Fucking Nihilism and its accompanying video. But then they were taken away with all the scantily-clad women snorting drugs and licking champagne off one another and they started taking it way too seriously, barely attempting to get across the point they wanted to make.

Someone should tell The Hard Way that if they need to argue the point of the song in the Youtube comments of their music video, it’s almost certain they failed; Bong-Ra commented that their inspiration was a quote from the late comedian Bill Hicks: “When did mediocrity and banality become a good image for your children? I want my children listening to people who fucking rocked! I don’t care if they died in pools of their own vomit! I want someone who plays from his fucking heart!” If their idea of self-parody was to make a song as mediocre and banal as possible, they succeeded, but by its very nature, something mediocre and banal is never going to make a strong point for or against anything.

It’s cheap, tacky, and immature, but what more can you expect from a band that responds to criticism in the Youtube comment section with “Get a sense of humor mate…”

But the biggest crime is that Total Fucking Nihilism, with its repetitious bass beat and half-hearted screaming, is really boring, though I’m sure all the hormonal and impressionable thirteen-year-olds will love it.
