Post-punk band Omi Palone is clearly inspired by Joy Division, with singer-guitarist Philip Serfaty’s baritone voice easily matching that of Ian Curtis, but their single Shallow Divide shows them to be tighter and more refined.
In a long bridge towards the end of the song the music keeps its aggression whilst showing it has plenty of subtleties hidden among its punk attitude. The song has a delicacy that most songs of this sort usually lack. Shallow Divide isn’t, however, anything ground-breaking, but it’s well worth a listen or two.
Omi Palone self-released a sold-out cassette in 2011, and followed it with two 7”s in 2012. They will release their eponymous debut album on 14th April.
