Winter, cold and grey, creeps through Meanwhile like a Scandinavian crime drama, along with the same moody resonance. It’s probably equally cold in the caravan park in the little Cornish town where sisters Annie and Georgie Hockeysmith live together, and write and record their music, though it’s surprising how ethereal you can get surrounded by four cardboard walls.
It starts off sparse – an acoustic guitar plucked softly over loud, sensuous breathing – later blending into moody synths and vocals as the beat gets more jagged and unpredictable. It’s not quite as focused as their debut single Let’s Bang, but for something to accompany those long, November nights, Meanwhile does the job.
There are plans for an EP early next year.
