Wax Idols – When It Happens (Video Review)

Rating:

The video for ‘When It Happens’, by California quartet Wax Idols is beautiful in its simplicity; just four talented ladies on stage playing like they mean it, while the stark black and white the video was shot in serves to emphasise the strength of the music above the visuals, yet also to remind you that this is music of a slightly darker hue than one would expect to hear coming from the sunny climes of Wax Idols’ home state.

Musically we are talking about a gloomy yet refreshing merging of New Wave and Punk which calls to mind acts such as The Smiths, Joy Division and The Fall, yet played with a very modern sense of pace and darkness that at times appears unstoppable. ‘When It Happens’ comes off the band’s sophomore LP “Discipline and Desire”, out June 3rd on Slumberland Records and will be one to check out if what’s on offer here takes your fancy. And well it should.
