Kate Nash – Free My Pussy (Music Video Review)

Rating:

So here we are again with another wonderful music video from one of my favorite artists Miss Kate Nash.
The new video is for the track ‘Free My Pussy’ which was recently released on a cute heart shaped vinyl for record day.

There has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding the track with a lot of people criticizing the song in general for its insincerity of such a serious issue but I say what do they know. Yes the song isn’t factual, theory based and in your face but it does the job. It is not a secret that Kate Nash is not a celebrated feminist theorist instead she stands to represent the feminist in every girl of today. The song still reminds us of the constraints sexism puts against women of today but just in a sweeter more fun and memorable way.

The vocal tone of the song is sweet and familiar to Kate’s musical style with beautiful harmonies which are great when mixed up against the controversial lyric with a hint of mid 90s riot girl themes that really get your mind thinking. It’s almost like the lullaby/nursery rhyme for the feminist.

The video itself has quite a lo fi quality keeping up with Kate’s vintage style with a wonderful mash up of cuts which resemble some sort of cheeky retro home movie. Kate shows off her ironic side, playing with the seriousness of the songs theme through a series of close up camera shots which the video personal and intimate. The different scenes show Kate singing to the camera in a flirty yet feisty manner, prancing around the room, dancing, climbing on furniture (just like a cat) and just generally being cheeky. I must admit as a lover of cats I cannot help but adore the addition of cat miaows and pictures within the video. The video is just pure entertaining, the visuals are pleasing to the eye and the lyrics are as always meaningful which overall really instate the songs underlying message just as I’m sure Kate had intended it to. Another perfect example of the musical journey Kate Nash’s music has taken over the last few years.

So be sure to take a few minutes to sit and watch ‘Free My Pussy’.

Well done Kate we love you.. Miaooooowwww.
