After last week’s game-changing episode, episode 6 arrives at a vital point in the series. It begins with a tense and captivating scene of a surveillance team monitoring rogue journalist Roya Hammad, what follows is then a short lived chase sequence. This episode also evolves the storyline of Brody’s pals Lauder and Mike investigating Tom Walker’s death and their ever growing suspicion of the congressman.
This episode is one which feels like the storyline in general isn’t particularly moving very quickly but the scene at the tailor’s shop comes completely out of nowhere. If there’s any moment that bares resemblance to 24 it’s that. What’s brilliant about that scene is that a high level of violence in this series hasn’t been something maintained and therefore it makes that scene all the more shocking and brutal.
Other developing storylines in this episode include Dana’s guilt over the pedestrian who Finn hit in his car and she subsequently visits the hospital which leaves her in a fairly unstable state. The biggest revelation in the episode is Mike finding Brody’s gun in his garage and being compelled to tell Jessica that Brody was responsible for Tom Walker’s death.
It’s an episode which deceives with its lack of action, until the tailor scene which just grabs you by the throat compared to the rest of what happens on screen. It’s beginning to look likely that the season is building towards Brody helping the CIA bring down Abu Nazir and somehow Dana’s storyline will coincide with that.
Once again it’s another episode of Homeland that has kept us gripped and compelled with its near perfect pacing and great acting. The only problem to be had with this episode however was the end scene with Carrie and Brody as it didn’t feel like it should have been another scene where Carrie cries as that feels like a regular occurrence now and it would have been nice to have had a break from that. However it was once again a quality episode.
