Listening to London-based songwriter and producer Ru Davies’s latest project, Maigret Jnr, is like being welcomed home on a cold, wet autumn night. His vocals are both hauntingly isolated against the muted piano, guitar, and percussion accompaniment, and filled with a soothing warmth.
The instrumentation provides the perfect backdrop for the vocals and lyrics, while his deep and slightly gravely tones call to mind The National’s Matt Berninger, and Chris Rhea; but the highlight here is Davies’s ability to weave a tale of depth and emotion throughout the track.
‘Breathe’ can be found on Maigret Jnr’s debut EP, which is out now via Make Mine.
