You would expect a man who records music under the pseudonym ‘How to Dress Well’ to be rocking some seriously neat threads, but Chicago based singer and producer Tom Krell looks like your standard urban layabout and appears to be letting the music do the talking, as demonstrated on new single ‘& It Was U’, the first track showcased from upcoming album “Total Loss.”
Krell’s powerful, yet high-pitched voice quavers all over an uber-minimalist intro of finger snaps before the track picks up with some driving house beats, ebbing and flowing before settling back into its laid back groove. The track really demonstrates Krell’s ability as a vocalist; his soaring falsetto reminiscent of any classic vocal performer you could care to think of.
“Total Loss” is set for release on November 12th and has already been named CD of the week in the prestigious Sunday Times Culture guide. The band kick off a three date UK & Ireland tour in Dublin on November 2nd, tickets for which will probably sell like hot cakes so if you fancy catching a very talented, albeit scruffy bloke and his band live before they get really big and turn into jerks, now’s the time to do it.
