Lillian Todd Jones is a woman’s woman. This brilliantly stripped back song is gothic and gloomy: she is as spooky as Siouxsie and has guitar like Peggy Sue. ‘Butter Soul’ feels incredibly personal; it’s as if she is performing it for your sole enjoyment. She sounds frank and honest and the warm creaks and squeaks in her voice exemplify that impeccably. She sings ‘I’m a dreamer after hours’ which is incandescent in its ambiguity and simple poetic value. The most striking thing about this standout track is Lillian’s wholesome voice- it’s unassuming but undoubtedly captivating and charming.
