Keel Her, the alter-ego of Rose Keeler-Schäffeler, is used to doing things her own way, including recording in her bedroom. Riot Grrrl is the first single recorded outside of her bedroom and in an actual studio, but she manages to keep her own lo-fi, D.I.Y. sound.
Riot Grrrl is loud and anarchic. The different instrument parts sound like they shouldn’t ever fit together, yet somehow they do. Rose Keeler-Schäffeler fighting for her voice to be heard over the fuzzy music recalls the feelings of trying to remember exactly what happened last night at that party where you drunk far too much, and where every memory feels a little too far away. The simple and repeated lyrics, including plenty of ‘fuck’s, help drive the aggression of the track.
It’s messy and all over the place, but just tight enough for every element of Riot Grrrl to click together for a brilliant, angst-filled track. It will be released 3rd December on 7” vinyl, with a b-side called You Would Be So Grossed Out If I Did That.
