Latch is the first single from House musicians Disclosure since signing to PMR records (Jessie Ware, Julio Bashmore). PMR Records’ decision to sign Disclosure probably came after hearing their remix of Jessie Ware’s ‘Running‘, which received many positive reactions.
The song starts off relatively quietly but slowly builds up to a chorus of heavy, pulsating bass. Being house music, it is obviously meant to be danced to in a nightclub, but the breaks between the choruses are ever so slightly more chilled out, so Latch works just as well when listening while relaxing at home.
It’s clear that Disclosure care about having strong vocals in their music; they like to use live vocalists rather than pre-recorded samples, and Sam Smith, featured in this track, brings with him a smooth and soulful voice, giving an R&B feel.
Latch isn’t exactly ground-breaking so if you aren’t into dance music it won’t convert you, but if you are you’ll definitely want to have a listen.
