Perfume Genius – Dark Parts (Single Review)
Perfume Genius will be releasing ‘Dark Parts’ from his recent album ‘Put your Back N 2 it’ on June 4th of this year. This piano ballad expresses the build up of emotion translated into a mild crescendo, lasting a large proportion of the song, which breaks into Perfume’s soft voice accompanied by the quiet comfort of his piano.
Although the song does inspire emotional attachment, it is difficult to overcome the shameless generic approach Perfume Genius adopts in the piece; there was not enough to distinguish ‘Dark Parts’ from other ballads of the same genre. Perfume Genius certainly does display talent, which can be heard in the song, however it feels as if something is lacking.
