Glasgow retro-rockers The Mix-Ups have thought of an innovative way to keep interest in their music alive – by releasing a single every month for a year. The first of these, Where You Belong, was released in December 2011. In January of this year, their UK tour culminated in a sold-out performance at Glasgow’s King Tut’s, and the band have been amassing a wealth of recorded material since.
Their sound evokes the cheery pop sound of fellow Scots The Fratellis and The Mystery Jets and combines it with with intricate, catchy guitar hooks and a sunny Sixties feel. They’ve already been championed by Mark Lamarr and supported The La’s and Supergrass during their three years together. Not bad for a band who, by their own admission, are named after a bag of sweets. Their next single will be released on April 1, and previous material can be heard at www.soundcloud.com/themixups.
